Hello everyone on the wonderful world wide web, this is a blog that is dedicated to the makings of your aquaponics garden here on Oahu. This will show our experiences, our failures, and our successes, into making our garden.
For those of you who are not familiar with aquaponics it "is the simultaneous cultivation of plants and aquatic animals in a symbiotic environment where the animal effluents that accumulate in the water are used and filtered out by the plants as nutrients, after which the water is recirculated back to the animals." So basically you take a fish tank and attach it to a garden. The fish poop provides the nutrition that plants need to thrive, while the plant roots absorb the ammonia and the nitrates that can be harmful to the fish.
We will give you all the information that we have collected and will weed through what works and what does not work. We hope that this will make it easier for anyone hoping to create their own aquaponics garden.
